Benefits

Laser Facials

Laser facials have many benefits. Laser therapy patients can achieve improved skin tone and texture through a comfortable procedure that is completed quickly and requires no downtime. Laser facials can be considered a non-surgical alternative to anti-aging procedures such as a facelift, depending on the severity of your aging signs.

During a laser therapy treatment, natural collagen production in the skin is stimulated. This means that the skin is left firmer and more youthful with reduced sagging, fine lines, or wrinkles. In addition, many types of laser treatments improve the skin tone by removing excess pigmentation such as redness and vascular issues or dark spots and age spots. Many laser facial patients notice a healthy glow in their complexion following their treatment.

Laser therapy facials can be used to treat skin conditions and concerns such as:

  • Wrinkles and fine lines
  • Sagging
  • Sunspots or age spots
  • Acne scars
  • Uneven skin tone

Kelowna Skin Care and Laser - FAQs
Are laser facials right for me?

If you’re looking to get rid of those facial blemishes, smooth out those lines and wrinkles, reduce pore size and create even tone and texture, then laser facials are for you. Some patients who have deeper skin tones or active acne may not be suited to laser facials, however.

How do laser facials work?

Gentle pulses of energy stimulate collagen production in the skin naturally laying down new, healthy tissue during the healing process after your procedure. This leaves you with soft, smooth skin.

The selective laser heat energy results in a reduction of fine lines and wrinkles as new collagen production smooths lines and increases the skin’s elasticity.

What does laser facials feel like?

Patients sometimes describe sensations during the procedure as warm tingling or the snap of a rubber band. A numbing facial cream (Emla 5%) is recommended to be applied one hour prior to your laser facial to make the procedure comfortable.

What results can I expect?

You can expect to see gradual improvement of tone, texture, pore size, fine lines and wrinkles and overall complexion over several days to weeks after your treatments.

How many treatments will I need?

To achieve optimal results, patients typically benefit from a series of 4 to 6 treatments scheduled three to four weeks apart.

How do I prepare myself for a laser facial treatment?

Patients should avoid excessive sun exposure or tanning beds, sunless tanning lotions, and tanning creams before, during and after treatment.

A broad-spectrum sunblock (UVA/UVB) SPF 30 or greater should be applied to the treatment area before any sun exposure.

Prior to receiving your laser facial, patients with a history of herpes or cold sores should receive appropriate treatment.

Laser facials are safe to be performed during the sunny months of the year, as long as your facial skin is not sunburn or tanned. Normally it is advised to avoid unprotected sun exposure one week before and after the laser facial.

What happens after my laser facial treatment?

Following treatment, apply an aloe-based gel or equivalent to sooth and moisturize the skin.

Avoid sun exposure throughout the course of treatment and use a broad-spectrum (UVA/UVB) sunblock, SPF 30 or greater, when the treatment area is exposed to the sun.
